ince its inception in 1986, the APK has evolved into
the largest networking event for German Business
in Asia. Taking place biennially, and rotated across
countries in the Asia-Pacific region, Jakarta was
chosen to host the 2018 conference. It was an opportunity
for EKONID to show important policy makers and business
leaders the depths and the potential that German-
Indonesian business cooperation can bring to the world.
After more than 18 months of preparation, EKONID
succeeded in hosting a grand event, attracting luminaries
such as Indonesia’s Finance Minister, Mrs. Sri Mulyani
Indrawati; Australia’s Minister for Finance and Public
Service, Mr. Mathias Cormann; CEO of Siemens AG, Mr. Joe
Kaeser; Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler
AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Mr. Dieter Zetsche;
Edward and Joyce Linde Associate Professor of City and
Transportation Planning at MIT, Jinhua Zhao; and even the
winner of the Windham-Campbell Literature Prize and the
author of “Age of Anger”, Mr. Pankaj Mishra, among other
prominent names.
The speakers and participants took part in over 14
sessions over two conference days, discussing today’s most
pressing topics such as infrastructure in Asia, digitilization
and innovation, Industrie 4.0 and trade policy and political
stability in the Asia-Pacific region. The variety of session
formats, which ranged from a plenary discussion to an
Oxford-style debate, as well as live use of the APK 2018 app,
allowed for active engagement from all of the participants.
Aside from the main conference, six AHK breakfast
sessions were also held in various venues within Jakarta’s
SudirmanCentral Business District. These breakfast sessions
focused on country and region-specific developments and
issues, particularly those within the ASEAN cluster, Greater
China, Japan and Korea, and South Asia. One session was
dedicated to vocational education and training.
EKONID also hosted a welcome and evening receptions,
both featuring incredible cultural performances that
showcased the eclectic beauty and wonder as well as the
diversity found within the world’s largest archipelago.
EKONID wishes to thank all of the sponsors, the organizing
team and all of the stakeholders who made this event a
highly successful event.
