region. In a follow up effort to the project, EKONID held
a forum on opportunities for public and private sector
cooperation in amunicipal wastemanagement in Jakarta.
The Indonesian Ministry of the Environment and Forestry
(KLHK), the Jakarta Environmental Agency, the Ministry of
Public Works as well as representatives from the private
sector and non-government organizations were among
the 70 attendees. The forum covered numerous aspects
of waste management, from technology to financing, with
Tasikmalaya as the case study.
September 2018 – Energy Efficiency in the Industry
As one of the 20 largest energy consumers in theworld,
Indonesia has a strong interest in the issue of energy
efficiency. Meanwhile, Germany iswell-knownas apioneer
in the field of energy efficiency, especially in terms of
industrial production. Hence, in collaboration with RENAC
and with support from the Federal Ministry of Economics
and Energy (BMWi), EKONID organized a German business
mission to Indonesia for the energy efficiency sector. As
part of the BMWi’s “Energy Solutions Made in Germany”
initiative, this mission was held from September 24-27.
Within the program, technical seminars and individual
business meetings were held. The conference was opened
by the German Embassy and representatives from the
Research and Development Center for Green Industry and
Environment at the Indonesian Ministry of Industry. About
100 participants consisting of both local and international
companies attended the event.
Furthermore, 34 business meetings for five German
delegates were arranged in the conference venue as
well as at the premises of local companies. PT Semen
Indonesia, Adaro Power, PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk, and PT
Antam Tbk were among the heavy-energy users who had
an interest in meeting the delegates in order to discuss
further energy solutions for their future projects.
October 2018 – GNTB ASEAN Roadshow
Indonesia has been identified as one of the strongest
growth markets in Southeast Asia for the German tourism
sector. Since 2015, EKONID has been supporting the
German National Tourism Board (GNTB) in order to
promote Germany as a tourist destination. As a follow up
to the ASEAN Roadshow initiated in 2017, EKONID again
hosted the delegation for GNTB’s ASEAN Roadshow 2018
in Jakarta. Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok were
the other selected Southeast Asian cities included on the
tour. Six companies from the German tourism industry
participated in the program.
In Jakarta, EKONID, with support from the German
Embassy, organized a visa and B2B workshop, followed
by a networking dinner. The visa and B2B workshop was
attended by over 50 participants from top travel agents in
Indonesia. The seminar allowed German partners to have
effective discussions with their Indonesian counterparts
particularly in regard to the latest issues affecting the
tourism industry, as well as in order to clarify various
issues involved in applying for a German Schengen Visa.
November 2018 – Cosmetic and Cleansing Material
Solutions
The Indonesian cosmetics market increasingly offers
interesting opportunities for high-quality brands from
abroad. A growing population, a sizeable middle-class,
rising awareness in regard to beauty products, as well
as changing lifestyles are among the key drivers behind
the potential of the Indonesian market. In seizing this
opportunity, EKONID hosted a business delegation trip
which comprised eight German companies from the
cosmetics and cleansing industries. Held from November
26 to 30 in Jakarta, this program was part of the Foreign
Market Entry Program (MEP) of the German Federal
Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and was
implemented in cooperation with the German Cosmetic,
Toiletries, Perfumes and Detergents Association (IKW) -
the initiator for the business mission to Indonesia. As for
their domestic counterparts, EKONID worked closely with
the Indonesian Cosmetics Association (PERKOSMI), the
Association of Medical Doctors for Anti-Ageing, Wellness,
Esthetics and Regeneration (PERDAWERI) as well as with
the Indonesia Cleaning Service Association (APKLINDO).
The main event of the business mission was a
business forum that was attended by over 60 guests from
the cosmetics and cleansing industries. As many as 43
individual in-house meetings were set up with potential
local business partners. Furthermore, visits to the Halal
Certification Body LPPOM MUI and Indonesian beauty
product manufacturers were arranged.
