T
he year 2018 among other events saw the visit of
a business delegation from Germany’s maritime
sector as well as, after a one-year break, the eagerly
awaited return of the Oktoberfest to Surabaya.
On February 25, a welcome dinner at the well-
known Hotel Majapahit kicked off a six-day program for
a business delegation representing Germany’s maritime
industries. For the third time in recent years, the German
Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as
well as the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries

several local companies to gain first hand impressions of
the status of the maritime industry in East Java, as well
as an award winning shipyard and a component producer
run by a German alumnus.
The second day presented the participating
German companies with an opportunity to introduce
themselves as well as their products, services and needs
to a professional audience consisting of more than 60
Indonesian business representatives and important
multipliers from government and private organizations
during a business forum on shipbuilding and maritime
technology solutions.
In the afternoon, individually organized B2B
meetings were held between the German companies’
representatives and interested counterparts from the
Indonesian side. Some 15 Indonesian companies had
registered prior to the event to meet with the German
companies and discuss potential business activities at a
total of 23 meetings. After the meetings the delegation
traveled on to Jakarta and Batam where the program
continued for another three days.
On October 6, and after months of preparation, the
Wisma Jerman – EKONID Oktoberfest once again opened
its gate to visitors who were keen to experience a glimpse
of the world famous Oktoberfest atmosphere. This year
the event was held at the SPAZIO Hall in West Surabaya

Indonesian companies.

by Dr. Andreas Kleine, Deputy Head of Economic Affairs
at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in
Jakarta, who explained the purpose behind the exhibition:
