T
hroughout 2016, the Publication and Design
department provided published and online collaterals
on over 40 internal projects, 10 of which are major,
multi-year projects that require extensive drafting. These
include:
• The East Java Brochure, an initiative of our Surabaya
branch to provide an easy-to-read guide on the latest
economic condition in Indonesia, particularly East Java.
• EKONID Business Partner 2016, the bi-annual directory
of all companies, German and Indonesian, connected
within the AHK Indonesia network.
• The construction of the online resource for the upcoming
JERIN (Jerman-Indonesia) event, an initiative of the
Federal Republic of Germany in enhancing and promoting
bilateral relations between Germany and Indonesia.
As for the department’s external projects, some of the
more notable are the country brochure for the German-
Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) and
AHK Myanmar, our first GIF based Eid Al-Fitr greeting card
for Jawa Power, and the Trade Booklet for the Delegation of
the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.
All of the above is done inconjunctionwith theproduction
of SOROTAN, EKONID’s quarterly magazine and one of the
oldest chamber magazines in Indonesia. Having celebrated
its 25
th
anniversary in the year previous, the magazine was
given a major overhaul to its layout with the aim to improve
readibility and topromotemore interactionbetweenEKONID
and its members. For example, the Member Updates section
was moved to the front of the magazine from its position in
the back pages. The section has since become an important
element of our members’ public relations effort as it serves as
an open platform to promote their activities.
SOROTAN
2016 was an eventful year for SOROTAN, what with the
announcement of President Joko Widodo’s visit to Germany
early in the year. This uptick in the bilateral relations
between Germany and Indonesia received due coverage from
SOROTAN and, in doing so, we’ve stepped up our game in
bringing our readers topical contents with insightful and
exclusive interviews. Indeed, within the June edition inwhich
President Widodo’s visit was covered, we’ve also conducted
an exclusive interview with the Indonesian Ambassador to
Germany, His Excellency Fauzi Bowo. In that same edition,
our own Cover Story on the rise of e-commerce in Indonesia
featured a number of high-profile interviews such as
Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara and
Go-Jek’s founder and CEO NadiemMakarim.
These high-profile interviews have not gone unnoticed
by our members, who have shown increased interest in
being featured in SOROTAN. Our September 2016 edition,
which featured President University’s new Rector, Dr. Jony
Oktavian Haryanto, is testament to that.

Since its creation over 25 years ago, SOROTAN has
attempted to promote German-Indonesian business relations
in all available fields and sectors and to disseminate the
strong potential that lies within that relationship. In 2016,
we’re continuing that tradition but have also added emphasis
on current prevailing topics such as Indonesia’s ambitious
infrastructure plans and the ASEAN Economic Community.
In each and every one of these editions, we’ve ensured that
prominent touchpoints within the German-Indonesian
business relations continues to be covered. Our interview
with Anthony Setiawan, Managing Director of PT. Bauer
Pratama Indonesia, and Joachim Wessling, CEO of Allianz
Indonesia, are just a couple of examples.
Overall, the year 2016 demonstrated how the redesigned
SOROTAN allows for a more focused and streamlined
experience, which in turn benefits those who make the
magazine and those who read it. In the future, we’ll continue
to step up our efforts to provide exclusive interviews and
insightful articles in the hopes of promoting stronger
participation from EKONID members in our activities.
