n 2016, EKONID took the next steps to set up concrete
solutions and services matching the technical workforce
qualification demand of German and Indonesian
companies in Indonesia. In the light of President Joko
Widodo’s and Chancellor Angela Merkel’s consensus in April
2016 inGermany on a closer cooperation of the two countries
to further develop the quality of Indonesia’s vocational
education offers, EKONID’s activities received a particular
attention and consideration by the Indonesian Government
and local key players throughout the year.
EKONID in cooperation with the Association of German
Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) offers the
organization, coordination, quality control and certificationof
Dual Vocational Education Courses according to the German
model and standards. The Chamber plans and discusses its
projects and activities quaterly in its Vocational Education and
Training Committee being composed of mainly companies
with a special interest in vocational education and training
topics and the involvement in EKONID’s initiatives.
Automotive Mechatronics
In 2016, EKONID drove forward its first dual vocational
education pilot project for the Indonesian company
ASTRA International initiated in 2015 to start at ASTRA
Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman) a 2,5-year certified
course according to theGerman vocational education system’s
standards and principles. Having set up a class of 24 future
automotive mechatronics at Polman ASTRA and elaborated
the appropriate curriculumwith the school already in summer
2015, the Chamber and ASTRA consequently followed their
track in 2016 during the dual course’s first year.
As a key element of the dual course’s teaching and
supervisory staff’s required further qualification, EKONID
and Polman ASTRA organized a one-week “Training of
Trainers” course in spring 2016. This certified course was
supervised and quality-controlled by EKONID as coordinator
of the training and head of the Examination Board. It is a
“Basic Version” of the German standard course “Ausbildung
der Ausbilder” containing the most relevant elements
required for teachers, trainers, instructors and supervisors of
apprentices in dual vocational education.
Industrial Mechanics
EKONID started planning the implementation of a 2,5-year
certified dual vocational education course according to the
German system’s standards and principles for a second
profession: industrial mechanic. Responding to a high
interest of Indonesia-based German companies, e.g. Siemens,
Bosch, MAN, in this qualification, EKONID evaluated several
Indonesian public vocational schools as potential partner
of the project. The course shall be held in parallel to the 3-
or 4-year Indonesian national industrial mechanic course
Indonesian public vocational schools already offer.
Training of Trainers and other further qualification
EKONID in its role as head of the Examination Board of
“Training of Trainer” courses held in Indonesia (Basic
Version) supported a course organized by IHK Trier in
November 2016 in Surabaya with approx. 20 participants in
total.
Further, theGerman-IndonesianChamber, incooperation
with the non-profit organization Kuehne Foundation,
organized a seminar for 13 logistic professionals on the
management and reduction of costs in transport and logistics
at the InterContinental MidPlaza in October 2016.
Outlook towards 2017
After President Jokowi’s visit to Germany and the signing
of an MOU on VET between 5 Indonesian ministries in
November 2016, EKONID perceived a high interest of
the Indonesian institutions in learning about the German
dual VET system, the Chamber’s vocational education and
training offers as well as in the establishment of dual VET
projects between German and Indonesian companies on the
one hand and Indonesian vocational training schools on the
other hand. EKONID is ready to elaborate solutions that help
the companies to train a future highly skilled workforce in
technical and other professions in Indonesia. We are looking
forward to present you our running projects and discuss new
ideas with you according to your specific demand – all in the
light of a close and active cooperation with the Indonesian
key public institutions in VET, e.g. the different ministries
and KADIN.
