EU-ACTIVE project
EKONID supports the
EU-Indonesian trade relations
Started in 2011, the Active project, co-financed by the
EU Commission, is the product of a joint collaboration
between the five European Chambers of Industry and
Commerce (IFCCI, INA, BritCham, EuroCham and
EKONID), KADIN and Indonesian sector associations.
Under the lead of INA, Indonesian-Netherland
Association, all organizations worked together to:
1. strengthen the capacity of the Indonesian business
associations (KADIN and the Indonesian sector
associations) to effectively lobby for the joint
interests of the Indonesian business community;
2. improve the business climate in Indonesia and
ensure open trade and investment conditions.
The business associations are key drivers of
improvement in the trade and investment climate
and the regime that governs international trade and
investment relations. Through its seven trainings on
various topics (advocacy & concept development,
professional secretariat management, new member
services, event management), EKONID, together
with the project teams in INA and KADIN, helped no
less than six Indonesian sector associations to equip
themselves for this role.
In parallel, EKONID took a coordinating role in the
design and implementation of the action plan in the
automotive sector. For more than one year EKONID
has been participating in automotive working groups,
organizing workshops and conceptualizing capacity
building programs adapted to the industry’s needs.
Through its activities, EKONID helped evaluate
the existing trade and investment relations in the
automotive sector, identify areas for growth, and
during three successful Business-to-Government
dialogues, gave the opportunity to representatives
from the automotive industry to highlight to their
respective governments where priority should be
given.
The two components of the ACTIVE project worked
closely together over the past year towards the
implementation of the very successful EIBD 2012.
The event was held in Bali on November 8 and 9, and
was jointly organized by the European Chambers of
Commerce, KADIN, Indonesian sector associations,
the EU Commission and the Ministry of Trade of the
Republic of Indonesia. For its third edition, the EU-
Indonesia Business Dialogue gathered 250 people
in the Nikko Hotel in Bali for two days, and enabled
representatives from the private sector to share their
experience and to address their recommendations to
the highest government levels.
Not to be forgotten, the EIBD 2012 submitted
a strongly supportive statement towards the
