The year 2016 continued to be a period of
transition for Indonesia, its economy as well as
its political process. This report shall give you an
overview on how EKONID, as German - Indonesian
Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has
developed during that period and give testimonial
about the main activities throughout the year.

or the third year in a row the economy grew by around 5%, fairly
reasonable compared to most of Indonesia’s peer countries, but much
lower than the country was used to in over a decade. The economic
transition of China from an export- to a much slower growing
consumer-oriented economy, only moderate growth rate in the developed
economies like the US or Europe, and consequently continued declines of
raw material prices, which mainly financed Indonesia’s growth in the past
decade, increased the necessity for further and more daring changes in the
governments reform policy.
In 2016, EKONIDconducted, or was actively involved in the organization of
140 events; 83 of them in Indonesia, 57 outside the country, of which 33 were
in Germany, 16 in other European and 8 in other, mostly ASEAN countries.
From the 83 events in Indonesia, 64 took place in Jakarta, 13 in Surabaya
and the others in Bandung, Probolinggo, Bandar Lampung, Banjarmasin,
Manado, Samarinda, Surakarta, Sukabumi and Tasikmalaya. Seven times
EKONID had in 2016 the pleasure to receive and look after incoming German
business delegations and supported additionally through the EIBN platform,
European delegation from Denmark, Belgium, Sweden and the European
Commission. With answering hundreds of individual corporate inquiries
and accompanying more than 2,000 Indonesian companies abroad, EKONID
continued to contribute its share to the growing business activities between
