Widodo went on to address a wide range of concerns in
regards to investments in Indonesia and promised to address
these with a commitment to a far reaching deregulation
policy of his administration. He closed his statement with a
remark: “I am like the German people, I don’t like to talk a
lot, but I like to work a lot”.
Twopanel discussions, one about BusinessOpportunities,
the other about Infrastructure Development in Indonesia
followed; the first, moderated by EKONID’s Managing
Director Mr. Jan R nnfeld, was with the then Minister of
Trade Thomas Lembong, the then Indonesian Investment
Coordinating Board (BKPM) Chairman Franky Sibarani, the
Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN)
Chairman Rosan Roeslani and the Chairman of EKONID
and CEO of ASTRA Prijono Sugiarto, giving the audience
good insights of doing business in Indonesia and provided
EKONID excellent exposure.
Following the forum, President Jokowi had meetings with
CEOs froma number ofGerman companies, includingBAYER,
DEUTSCHE BANK, FERROSTAAL, MERCEDES-BENZ,
MEYER WERFT and SIEMENS. A number of Memorandum
of Understandings for future investment projects were signed
as well.
A focus on vocational training
EKONID initiated and facilitated the only site visit of
President Widodo during his short time in Germany, to
the SIEMENS Professionals Education Facility in Berlin.
Welcomed by Dr. Busch, Thomas Leubner and JosefWinter,
all from SIEMENS, and accompanied by Mr. R nnfeld, the
President showed great interest in the highly regarded
German Dual Vocational Education system.
In the official Indonesian press release, he was later
quoted: “Indonesia is serious in replicating the German
vocational education system in order to move the
Indonesian industry forward, particularly in the field of
energy, textile, maritime and other fields.”
