Annual Report 2013
Visit of Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation, Dirk Niebel
EKONID’s start in 2013 began with a highlight, when the Federal Minister of Economic
Cooperation and Development, Dirk Niebel, visited Indonesia in January. Minister
Niebel was accompanied by a delegation of representatives from his ministry, the
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Kreditanstalt für
Wiederaufbau (KfW) as well as business representatives.
In Jakarta, Federal Minister Niebel held talks with Indonesian ministries, among
others the Minister of National Planning of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Armida
S. Alisjahbana. EKONID hosted a meeting for the Minister to discuss with the GIZ,
the German development agency, and representatives of the economy on further
cooperations between these two fields. Furthermore, the participants of the meeting
at EKONID talked about the economic-political conditions of German companies in
Indonesia. The Minister continued his visit with meeting in Solo and Manado.
All talks took place in a friendly atmosphere and underlined the good and close relations
between both countries. With support of about € 3.5 billion, Germany is Indonesia’s
fourth-largest bilateral partner
Visit of German Foreign Minister, H. E. Dr. Guido Westerwelle
On the occasion of the official visit of Dr. Guido Westerwelle, German Minister of
Foreign Affairs and his delegation, KADIN & EKONID organized a joint luncheon with
Mr Gita Wirjawan, Minister of Trade of RI themed “Indonesian - German Relationship:
Shaping Globalization and Sharing Responsibility”.
The tragic and sudden loss of the father of German Foreign Minister, H. E. Dr. Guido
Westerwelle, made it impossible for him to attend our event. This very personal decision
was respected by all of the two hundred participants in attendance that day.
As the large German delegation included not only officials but also some thirty high-
level businessmen and renowned journalists, KADIN & EKONID were especially grateful
that Minister Gita Wirjawan shared an hour of his valuable time with the audience.
