GIZ COOPERATION
MAKE IT
IN GERMANY
Depicting Germany as an interesting and attractive place to live
and work
The “Make it in Germany” portal of the Qualified Professionals Initiative provides
a multilingual internet portal for international skilled workers and shows qualified
professionals from other countries the way to Germany – and what it is that makes it
worthwhile to live and work there. The Qualified Professionals Initiative was launched
by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the Federal Ministry of Labor and
Social Affairs and the Federal Employment Agency and aims at providing information
and raising awareness among the general public, businesses and qualified professionals
about the causes and impact of the shortage of skilled workers in the STEM sectors
(science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in Germany.
EKONID supported the GIZ and its partner institutions, The German Embassy and
The Goethe-Institut to host the “Discover Germany!” event on Saturday, November
23
rd
, 2013 at Aryaduta Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. Especially remarkable was the high
percentage of Indonesian female attendees at this event, which is not the usual case
with the STEM sectors.
During the event, the concept of “Make it in Germany”, the background of the
initiative, the requirements for taking part, the application process, language aspects,
visa regulations for Indonesian citizens, the salary structure in the relevant sectors
etc. were pointed out. Germany was depicted as an interesting and attractive place
to live and work – especially for skilled professionals as it is open to new ideas and
innovation. During the coffee and lunch breaks, the participants had the chance to get
more information at the information booths of the partner institutions.
