Expanding our network to East Java
In 2013 EKONID in Surabaya was affected by the renovation works of the Wisma Jerman
premises; however, we did have our highlights!
In April, the German Senator of Economics, Labour and Ports of The Free Hanseatic
City of Bremen, Martin Günthner, along with the German Ambassador to Indonesia,
Dr. Georg Witschel, visited Surabaya accompanied by a business delegation to meet
with the Governor of East Java, Dr. H. Soekarwo, for cooperation talks, mainly in the
maritime sector. As both cities are important seaports, the field of ports management
was of special interest to the German delegation members.
PT. AKR Corporindo, an internationally operating Indonesian company founded in
Surabaya, is planning to open an integrated industrial and ports estate in Gresik (Java
Integrated Industrial and Ports Estate, JIIPE). To introduce this project to prospective
investors, a group of CEOs of German companies based in Jakarta and other Asian
countries visited the akr office and the building site of the project in July.
In November, the second delegation from Germany visited Surabaya. Five businessmen
from German medium enterprises from the Federal State North Rhine Westfalia,
accompanied by the state secretary for Economy, Energy, Industry , Small and Medium
Sized Businesses and Trade, Dr. Günther Horzetzky, met with local companies for
cooperation talks as well as with the Governor of East Java. Prior to their departure, they
visited one of the EKONID-Member companies, PT. Meco Inoxprima, a manufacturer of
processing equipment and plants, mainly for the food industry.
The peak of the EKONID 2013 agenda in Surabaya was without doubt the 2

EKONID-
Sheraton Oktoberfest, which again took place at the Sheraton Surabaya. Almost
300 enthusiastic guests visited this highly anticipated event. The ultimate fun was
experience through good traditional Bavarian live music from Germany, free flow of
beer and mouthwatering Bavarian delicacies.
For the coming year 2014, EKONID will start with regular networking meetings in the
premises of Wisma Jerman. Following the completion of renovation works by the end
of 2013, we will be able to use the new function hall and a beautiful tropical garden
for presentations and cocktails with our members and everyone interested in Germany
related business themes.
