affecting trade and investment between the EU and
Indonesia. EIBD 2014 is supported by the Ministry
of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia and co-funded
by the European Union. In addition to the keynote
speeches, a panel discussion, the signing of a joint
statement, and press conference, break-out sessions
on Five Key Sectors, and a cocktail reception were
part of the programme.
“The EU has an integrated market with 500 million
consumers, while Indonesia will be part of ASEAN
which will be an integrated market with 600 million
consumers. Only by joining forces and through close
cooperation can we achieve success,” H.E. Herman
Van Rompoy said. Speaking in fluent English Vice-
President Mohammad Jusuf Kalla reminded that
“There is great potential to strengthen relations
between EU and Indonesia.” Several policy options
were suggested by the EU as well as the Indonesian
side to the newly installed Government led by
president Joko Widodo.
Following the opening address by Jakob Sorensen of
EuroCham and Suryo Sulisto of Kadin Indonesia, as
well as the keynote speeches, the signing of a Joint
Statement of Kadin, Apindo and European Chambers,
was done by Suryo Sulisto, who represented Kadin,
Sofyan Wanandi, who represented Apindo, and Jakob
Friis Sorensen, on behalf of EuroCham.
